It is not uncommon to see icebergs in Newfoundlands's waters. Every year between 500 and 1000 icebergs drift pass our shores on the northeast coast. Ninety percent of these frozen giants originate from 15,000 year old glaciers in Western Greenland. The journey to Newfoundland can take one or two years as they are pushed south into the Atlantic Ocean by the strong Labrador Current. Icebergs are strikingly beautiful as their brilliant white walls reflect light in all the colors of jade, turquoise and blue.
